Did You Know?
To achieve a 'glittery-like' effect on tatting when stiffening, use a fine-tip paint brush to apply diluted craft glue.
To achieve a 'matte' effect when stiffening, soak the tatted piece with diluted craft glue (for a few moments) and then blot the excess.
See the difference?

Wow, that is quite a difference. Thank you for the education!
ReplyDeleteThat is quite a difference. Thank you for posting this and teaching me something new!
ReplyDeleteThose are really nice! :)
ReplyDeleteIs the craft glue the standard white glue? I generally use Aleene's fabric stiffener, which is similar to a watered-down craft glue. I've never tried just brushing it on for a glittery effect, although I've sprinkled on some ultra-fine crystal glitter after the piece was blotted but still wet. I'll have to give this a try.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I'm fascinated by your very attractive overlapping flower. It is your own pattern?
I use a general, all-purpose white glue (it's extra strong, washable, non-toxic etc.. similar to Elmer's but a local brand).
ReplyDeleteThat is the effect I get when I brush vs. when I soak. It's interesting really... guess it's kind of like sponge brushing vs. roller brushing paint on to a wall. same substance, different tool = different effect.
The flower is just some stitch counts that I came up with. Made 2 motifs and overlapped them. I'm sure the motif has been made at some point in time before mine, but what I've done came from my head.
I can post the stitch count if anyone is interested
